Villa Svea
After a year of renovation, Villa Svea was, in the summer of 1998, proud to receive an architectural award from Svendborg County. The reward was received for returning the villa to its
original form and carrying trough a renovation with respect to the villa’s peculiarity. Svendborg County had researched some of Villa Svea’s history, which was printed on the award:

In 1765, the Danish Royal House sold Gl. Hestehauge and Øxenbjergsmarkene to Niels Juel at Valdemar Castle. In 1866, grosser Th. C.F. Weber, that was very involved in growing fruit, took over Hestehauge Forrest. He laid out the first fruit orchard by his estate Søro - later several thousand acres were to be laid out as fruit orchards. At the same time, he turned the area along the beach, with the steep moraine, to one of the most beautiful and picturesque spots in the country.

By the fathers death in 1886, the son Sophus Weber took over Gl. Hestehauge. He there, together with shipbuilder H. Poulsen, established a shipyard, where several larger and smaller luxury yachts, as well as a few sailing ships, were built in the following years.

In 1913, the famous editor Henrik Cavling wrote: "Here I saw Svendborg for the first time, and thought: In any of the foreign countries you have roamed through, have you ever seen anything as breath-taking as this little sound? No! It was a discovery I had made. The spring in Svendborg had suddenly opened up my window to Denmark, and therefore I say Thank You!. This window should never be closed to anyone. Should you, dear Globetrotter, feel, that the hinges are rusty, then try waking up one June morning in Christiansminde".
